Brave
If you've ever followed the blog, you may recall Eva's story and images from a short while back. Sometime last week, Eva was admitted into the hospital after seizures during lunch. After further arrangements, she was transferred to MD Anderson in Houston. Eva was surrounded by family and friends that came from all over to visit. The staff did their best to make her comfortable. Shortly after 9am on Memorial Day, Eva passed away. Our deepest condolences goes out to Eva's family.
*Update in comments.
Eva is an inspiration to all of us at TriCoast. She is witty, brave, strong and beautiful, even at the most dire of times. She fought through tough situations and kept smiling, if not smirking. At the hospital, she greeted visitors as much as she could. I know she tried to see everyone that stopped by.
I have debated with myself wether or not post this blog. I've had so many emails and comments previously about Eva's story, and how she gave them hope because of how strong and beautiful she is. I was afraid that news of Eva passing on would take that hope away. In the end, I believe Eva would have wanted her story to be told.
Eva, you will be missed, and we will never forget you. Thank you for being who you are.

I am so very sorry!! I have followed Eva's brave story.. My Prayers and thoughts go out to all that Eva's life has touched.. God Bless, M
Thank you for portraying her just how she was. She was a very close friend, and I still can't believe she's gone. We have the viewing and funeral services the end of this week. I'm not looking forward to it. It's so hard to say good-bye to someone you love. But she's an angel now, she always was. You did such a beautiful job. Thank you.
My thoughts and prayers are with Eva's family.
God Bless
My deepest condolences go to Eva's family and friends. What a remarkable young woman--Mike thank you for sharing her with us.
I am so sorry. I visit your blog daily and this story breaks my heart. Eva's family and friends will be in my thoughts and prayers.
Very Sad news, My condolences to her family and friends..
Early Saturday morning, Mike, Suzy and I drove out to the small town of Sweeney. When I walked in, I was immediately greeted with two large photo of Eva, donated to the family by TriCoast.
I think it was then, that I realize that Eva is no longer with us. I hesitated going into the church, because I almost did not want to believe it. The memorial service was full, and there was barely any standing room. The choir stands were also full. As we waited for the service to begin, Eva's family had prepared a slideshow with some old family photos all the way up to our session at Hastings.
After the service, we drove out to the cemetery. Eva's family had a long standing tradition where they fill the plot with dirt. It had seem as if time stopped and emotions were high. After a short prayer, Eva's father, grandfather, brother, uncles, and close friends picked up the shovel to bring the ceremony to a closure.
Undoubtedly one the most emotional moment for me, was when Trixy, Eva's sister, got on the ground, picked up a piece of earth and laid it on the ground with Eva. I had to fight the tears away.
Out of instinct and an excuse not to cry, I started to reach for my camera. But we had all left them behind at the house. Earlier someone had asked us where our cameras were. Mike stated it the best. "We are here today, not as photographers. But to honor and remember Eva, and as a friend and support for her family."
